When you’re ready to export your music as an MP3 in Logic Pro, the command you’ll actually want to use is called Bounce. This term comes from analog tape recording days, when engineers would quickly run out of tape channels and had to permanently combine multiple channels into one to free up new channels. Luckily, Logic Pro makes it easy to stack dozens of tracks, and even easier to bounce the audio. Just follow these steps:

  • First, make sure the metronome is off. It’s embarrassing to export audio with the click track on. Honestly, I think it’s embarrassing that Logic does this without even warning you, but that’s the way it is.
  • Set your export range: This prevents silent gaps at the end of your audio file. The easiest way is to press Command-A to select all.
  • Open the Bounce window by pressing Command-B, or go to the top menu and select File > Bounce > Project or Section.
  • Select MP3 format by checking the MP3 box in the left column under Destination. Uncheck Uncompressed if you only want an MP3 file.
  • Configure MP3 settings:
    • Bit Rate: Set stereo bit rate to 320 kbps for the highest audio quality.
    • Normalize: Set to Off.
  • Click OK in the bottom right corner.

When you name your file, carefully choose where to save it on your computer. By default, Logic wants to bury it three folders deep. Save it on the Desktop so you can email it or AirDrop it. Click Bounce.
